Everton 0-0 Arsenal – Freddie Ljungberg FULL Post Match Press Conference – SUBTITLES

Duncan said with a few minutes to go he said ‘let’s hope we both get a point’ does that sum up the game? “Personally, I wanted to win the game. I feel we’ve taken strides in how we want to play football, especially at West Ham away. That was the first time we won away from home since the opening day of the season and then we got our second. “I want to keep possession, wear the opponents down and I think we did that quite well in the first half. In the second half I think we played through them quite well and especially the with Aubameyang is a clear chance to score and then hopefully we win the game. “But I liked that we dominated the game with a very young side out. They fought so hard and I wanted them to win but at the end of the day, they beat Chelsea here and did well against Manchester United so well done to the boy and it’s a point.” Arteta and Ancelotti were in the stands, did that have a bearing on the players? “It’s so difficult to say. At the same time, I wasn’t happy with how we played against Manchester City, we didn’t have enough energy and didn’t respect the game enough, that’s why I picked the team I did today. “I said I’d give everyone I chance and I think I have done that and if people run and try hard in training I will reward them and these boys have been doing that for three weeks. “I said ‘Okay, this is your time guys, show
me.’ and they did, they really put an effort in there and I’m really proud of them. What have you got out of yourself in these few games? “It’s from one day to another and I think we had six people leaving and there were no people there. “You try to fill the gaps and do a lot of things but I learned a lot about myself. I tried to organised things and get it done. Of course it’s been a big honour but it’s also been a big challenge. “Per Mertesacker has been our academy manager as well as being my assistant and it hasn’t been easy for him. He’s been going to kids’ Christmas parties and then back to me and here and there so I must say a big thank you to him.” Have you spoken to Mikel yet? “I spoke to him a little bit today and yesterday. The club have said they want me to stay and I will chat with him (Arteta) tomorrow.” Did he come down after the game? “Yeah, he came down after the game and said similar things to what I’ve just said.” Was the Ozil thing because of him kicking his socks? “For me, I got asked after the game about Mesut. He walked off, took his things (gloves) and kicked them and the fans were not happy and I was asked about it. “I said ‘For me, at Arsenal, that’s not how we behave, that’s not what we do’ and I stand by that. “Mesut was injured but I would not have picked him for the squad because I want to make a stance that, that’s not what I accept from an Arsenal football player. “That’s my decision and that’s what I think.” Was playing the younger players a statement in terms of what the club has? “I think we have a lot of talent. Against City, I wasn’t happy with the effort we put in. “We played a top team of course, but you still need to run and put in an effort. “The players I put on today, I know they’re young and don’t have much experience, some made Premier League debuts, we have an 18-year-old at left-back who’s a winger, but hey, they did really well. “They dominated Everton away from home and we as a club should be proud of that.” Are Arsenal a long way off the big six and is the talent pool good enough to make strides? “It’s very difficult but we’re a big club. We’re a bit low on confidence, we’ve been going through a difficult time. “But we won away to West Ham and that was the first time since the first day of the season so that changed us a bit. “Here, we kept a clean sheet and drew away from home. We feel a bit stable and for me, the important thing is that we’re Arsenal Football Club. “We need to have possession, keep the ball and dominate. Everton were really strong on their long balls and throw ins but that’s what I take with us. “I know Mikel’s a great coach and he will make us even better.” Was he in the dressing room before the game? “He came in 10 seconds before and now after the game.”
