American Legion Post 64 receives check to rebuild after Florence


LARGEST VETERANS SERVICE ORGANIZATION. AND IN POLLOCKSVILLE… AMERICAN LEGION POST 64 SUFFERED THOUSANDS OF DOLLARS IN DAMAGES AFTER HURRICANE FLORENCE. THIS MORNING, THEY RECEIVED A GENEROUS DONATION TO HELP THEM REBUILD A YEAR AFTER THE STORM. PKG: NAT SOUND IT’S A NEW BEGINNING FOR THE VETERAN COMMUNITY IN POLLOCKSVILLE. “It’s Christmas, it’s Christmas in September.” WEDNESDAY MORNING, A 10-THOUSAND DOLLAR CHECK WAS PRESENTED TO AMERICAN LEGION POST 64. “We weren’t looking for a hand out, we’re looking for a hand up.” A HELPING HAND FROM THE AMERICAN LEGION DEPARTMENT OF NORTH CAROLINA AND THE NORTH CAROLINA DEPARTMENT OF MILITARY AND VETERANS AFFAIRS. “We’re not part from the community, we all are a part of the community.” THE FUNDS WILL HELP REBUILD THE FACILITY THAT SUFFERED 80- THOUSAND DOLLARS IN DAMAGE. “The building was flooded, we had a lot of damage to the extrior walls, a lot of cracking, so we pretty much had to start from scratch.” POST COMMANDER JAMES W GRAY SAYS THE PAST YEAR, SERVICES WERE OPERATING OUT OF AMERICAN LEGION MEMBERS’ HOMES. “And from there we would find ways to support the community.” SO THE COMMUNITY HELPED RESTORE THE BUILDNG ALONG WITH TEAM RUBICON. A NONPROFIT ORGANIZATION DISASTER REPONSE TEAM. “You know every time, you think about it, you almost tear up, because you see people happy for your work.” AS A RESULT, MEMBERS RECEIVED A TOKEN OF APPRECIATION. “It meant a lot to me to know that I’ve made a change.” WITH THEIR HELP THE COST TO REPAIR THE POST HAS REDUCED. AND POST 64 CAN NOW PAY IT FORWARD. “NOW WE CAN GO BACK OUT AND HELP THE COMMUNITY.” LL: THE POST COMMANDER FOR AMERICAN LEGION POST 64 SAYS THEY PLAN TO HAVE THE BUILDING COMPLETE AND OPERATING BY JUNE 2020.
